August 11, 2007, will be the Bud Billiken� Parade and Picnic�s 78th year.
  
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic parade began in 1929.
   
Robert S. Abbott, founder of Chicago Defender newspaper, founded The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic.
   
The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic is largest of its kind in the nation.
   
More than 74,000 persons participated in 2006 Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic.
   
The 2006 Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic had more than 160 floats and vehicles in its procession.
   
In 2006, more than 1.2 million persons lined the parade’s route.
   
In 2006, more than 25 million viewers viewed the Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic nationally on television. It captured the number one and number two spots in African American households for its time slot. And it captured the number one viewer time slot overall.
   
The Bud Billiken� Parade and Picnic is broadcast locally on the WGN, ABC television and nationally on WGN/WB cable outlet. Bud Billiken� is a considered to be the protector of children.
